MIGRATION & CULTURE 2009

Migration & Culture 2009

An interdisciplinary social science course, combining ASB 340 Migration & Culture, SBS 450 Local/Global, SOC 331 Migration

WELCOME TO OUR SITE!

This site presents ASU students' original research and reflective writing on immigrants and refugees worldwide and in our local metropolitan community. Most of us had never made web pages before. The Web Portfolios we created show a bit about our own families' migration stories, results of our team research comparing several contested borders in far flung parts of the world where migration is a controversial issue, and quick observations on the impact of migrants in our city. We report on the all-day fieldtrip to Nogales, Mexico that most of our class participated in, learning about migration and US/Mexico border issues (Check out our Photo Gallery from the trip!). Students unable to attend report on their fieldwork along interior 'borders' in metro Phoenix. Our final project tells the stories of immigrants or refugees from all over the world now living in metropolitan Phoenix. Our interviews with these migrants clearly show that in Crossing the Valley of the Sun, we cross the globe.
